Some states and territories offer more generous rebates, tax exemptions, or interest-free loans than others, and these incentives are constantly changing as governments push to increase EV uptake. Stamp Duty Exemption: Zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) are exempt from stamp duty.
Registration Discounts: The ACT has transitioned to an emissions-based registration system, offering reduced fees for low-emission vehicles.
Interest-Free Loans: Eligible residents can access zero-interest loans up to $15,000 for sustainable home upgrades, including EV purchases.
Registration Fees: EVs continue to attract the lowest registration fee.
Stamp Duty: Lower stamp duty rates for EVs remain in effect.
Registration Exemption: Eligible new EVs registered between October 28, 2021, and June 30, 2025, receive a three-year registration exemption.
Rebates: The $3,500 rebate for the first 10,000 EVs or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles priced under $70,000 remains available.
Registration Fees: EVs pay the registration fee equivalent to the small car category, regardless of vehicle size.
Stamp Duty Discount: A $1,500 stamp duty discount for EVs and plug-in hybrids valued up to $50,000 is available until June 30, 2027.
Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) Exemption: Certain EVs remain exempt from FBT, reducing costs for employers and employees.
Luxury Car Tax (LCT) Threshold: Higher LCT thresholds for fuel-efficient vehicles continue to provide savings on eligible EVs.
Customs Duty Removal: The removal of customs duty is still applicable on some EVs lowering import costs.
